About 25% of the buyers opt for the additional range-extending battery pack when ordering their Cybertruck, according to community-sourced data from Cybertruck Owner's Club. One thing to keep in mind here is that the data is collected only from website visitors, so actual numbers may vary a bit.

Still, the results from the poll show high demand for the range-extending battery pack despite the downsides. Obviously many value the extra 120 miles above the loading space it wastes and price it costs. Since the battery pack is mounted at the bottom of the bed at the back, it limits the cargo space and limits the cargo capacity to 1,900 lb from 2,500 lb. After all, the battery itself weighs 800 lb.

Another factor that buyers need to take into account is the limited performance and efficiency. The added weight sure takes its toll on nimbleness.

Last but not least, the battery pack costs $16,000 extra and if you decide to get one after you've received your Cybertruck, it requires you to leave the vehicle at one of Tesla's service centers and this alone is a huge hassle for customers leaving in rural areas.

Tesla says the extended-range battery pack is more of a niche feature for those who plan on taking extra long trips away from the plug or need to toll a significant payload up a mountain, for example.
