Geely unveils new Guinness-certified i-HEV hybrid system with incredible efficiency

Geely has unveiled its new i-HEV hybrid system, which the company claims has a 48.41% maximum thermal efficiency on its engine. This, according to Geely, is one of the highest such numbers in mass production today.

The new i-HEV system improves overall energy efficiency by more than 10% with AI-based energy management and a dedicated hybrid powertrain which comes in multiple options including 1.5l petrol, 1.5l turbodiesel, and 2.0l turbodiesel.

Geely unveils new Guinness certified i-HEV hybrid system with incredible efficiency

The new i-HEV system achieved a Guinness-certified fuel consumption figure of just 2.22l/100km under combined conditions. The electric drive provides 230kW, which enables acceleration from 0 to 19 mph in 1.84 seconds, which is, of course, a useless number since no one counts acceleration like that.

However, Geely says the new system is optimized for low-speed urban driving and energy recovery efficiency, which is probably why it shared an acceleration number only to that speed.

The new i-HEV system will be used by Geely in China across its entire range of vehicles.

If their EM-i equipped PHEV any indication, their hybrid system is very similar to that of Honda e:HEV (or BYDs DM-i) with the added benefit of SiC DC-DC converter between the battery and the inverter to avoid stalls at low SOC. This type of system c...

Didn't expect that one of the chinese legacy automakers still comes out with a new IC engine. We should suspect that also in this i-HEV system the IC engine is unfortunately still able to drive the wheels directly.
