The automotive landscape is rapidly changing, and Geely is not one to be left behind. The Chinese automaker recently showcased its commitment to EVs at the Automechanika Frankfurt Trade Fair, unveiling a trio of electric models, all simply branded as "Geely." Among these, the Geely EX5 electric SUV stood out, destined to make its mark on the global stage.

Originally launched in China as the Geely Galaxy E5 in August, the EX5 is the best evidence of Geely's ambitions for international expansion. Designed from its inception as a global model, the EX5 has undergone rigorous testing in both left- and right-hand drive configurations, ensuring its adaptability to various markets.

With dimensions of 181.7 inches in length, 74.8 inches in width, and 65.7 inches in height, and a wheelbase of 108.3 inches, the EX5 strikes a balance between being compact and spacious. Built on the Geely Electric Architecture (GEA) platform, the SUV is already compliant with regulatory requirements in a remarkable 89 countries.

The EX5 comes with a 160 kW electric motor mounted on the front axle, generating 320 Nm of torque. Its intelligent electric drive system integrates 11 major components into a single unit, contributing to weight reduction and improved efficiency. As a result of clever packaging and plenty of torque, the EX5 boasts a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of just 6.9 seconds.

Battery options include 49.52 kWh and 60.22 kWh capacities, offering ranges of 273 miles and 329 miles, respectively, based on the CLTC standard. These figures, although inherently optimistic, position the EX5 as a practical choice for daily commutes and longer journeys alike.

The EX5's interior is a mix of modernity and sophistication. A 15.4-inch 2.5 K infotainment screen graces the dashboard as standard, complemented by a 10.2-inch LCD instrument display. Higher-end models even feature a head-up display. Geely's commitment to technological innovation is evident in the EX5's domestically produced Dragon Eagle-1, a 7 nm automotive chip that powers the vehicle's systems.

While initially anticipated to launch overseas next year, the EX5's appearance at the Frankfurt Trade Fair suggests an accelerated timeline. Geely has confirmed its imminent introduction in Norway, Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, and other markets, hinting at a possible launch before the end of 2024.
