Huawei-backed Stelato S9 EV debuts, as new brand's first model
The Beijing Auto Show is the place to be for new EV launches, and today a new brand introduced its first model. We're talking about Stelato, jointly created by Huawei and BAIC BluePark, the EV arm of Beijing Automotive Group.
The first Stelato model is called S9 and it comes with extremely sleek looks targeting the premium market, aiming to compete with the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series, and Audi A8L. It's 203.1 inches long, 78.2 inches wide, and 58.5 inches tall, with a wheelbase of 120.1 inches.
It has two versions, one with a single rear motor with a maximum power output of 227 kW / 304 hp, the other with an additional front motor that has a maximum power output of 158 kW / 211 hp. It's unclear if the dual-motor version's total output will end up being a simple sum of these two numbers or lower (we've seen both options in the past).
The S9 will use Li-Ion ternary and "Li-ion ternary + lithium iron manganese phosphate" technology from CATL, but battery capacity hasn't been revealed yet. The car's starting price is expected to be between CNY 300,000 ($41,000) and CNY 500,000 ($69,000).
The Stelato S9 will go on sale in July or August and we expect to hear much more about it until then.
