Hyundai Ioniq 5 N real life range test
Hyundai has has come out with a few truly exciting turbocharged petrol engines in its compact ICE-powered models. With the newest addition to the N lineup - the Ioniq 5 N, the company shows that you can also have a thrilling ride in the electric vehicle world.
We already reviewed the regular Ioniq 5 and tested its real world endurance, but now it’s time to see how long its beefed-up 650 hp version can go on a charge. Efficiency isn’t the key point in a car like this, but it's important nonetheless as you are not going to be spending all your time at the race track. Our full detailed review of the Ioniq 5 N will be coming out soon to fill you in on how it behaves there.
We drove our usual test routes, doing the same track both ways at constant speeds at the same place as with every other car we test. The ambient temperature while testing the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was 82°F, which is a bit higher than the optimal, bt not by such a margin that the range is too heavily impacted.
At our lowest testing speed of 37 mph the powerful 5 N shows almost identical efficiency to the range Ioniq 5. This means that the bigger battery in the N can actually go a bit longer on a single charge. What’s impressive is that the much more powerful engine and the more complicated electronics haven't really impacted the consumption, which is a huge achievement by Hyundai.
Once we move on to the next speed of 56 mph the Ioniq 5 N starts feeling the effect of of its extra downforce-boosting aero elements. However, the result of 3.6 mi/kWh is still alright for the size and power of the 5 N and is even better than some less powerful rivals.
Even at the highest testing speed of 81 mph the Ioniq 5 N maintains decent efficiency for its class. Sure, it's not quite up there with the most frugal EVs out there, but its bigger battery still enables a decent range.
When it comes to efficiency, the Ioniq 5 N can be a sensible choice if you are very gentle on the accelerator. However, that’s far away from its intended use case, so when you turn each traffic light into a drag strip and actually have fun behind the wheel, consumption starts going far away from the values mentioned above. The Ioniq 5 N is a wonderful pocket-rocket and a vehicle that blesses the driver and passengers with endless smiles as you push it to its limits, so if you intend on buying one, efficiency likely isn't on your list of priorities.
Still, you can use the widget below to find out the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N's range in every combination of speed and temperature you might need. We've used our real world tests and a complex model to provide an estimate that should be as close to the actual performance as possible.

Efficiency is also important since I wanna reach my final destination eventually haha. Can't wait to see the full review on this bad boy. Gotta know if those 650 hp are as fierce as they promise.

Respect, Hyundai! This car is amazing, but I don't think anyone would care about its consumption that much anyways.
