Lucid Air Grand Touring keeps the 500-mile promise in real-life range test

Max McDee, 02 September 2024

Lucid Motors' Air Grand Touring has been the longest range EV in the US for a while now with an EPA-rated range of 512 miles. But can it live up to this claim in real-world driving scenarios?

Out of Spec Reviews put this to the test, driving the Air GT at a constant 70 mph on the highway until the battery ran dry. Typically, such high-speed driving leads to reduced range compared to the advertised figures, as the offcial tests are ran at a far lower average speed, even if they involve a number of stops.

Well, the Lucid Air came pretty close to its promised range. It managed to cover an impressive 510.4 miles at a steady 70 mph before power was cut. Even then, it continued coasting for another 13.3 miles, ultimately reaching a total of 523.7 miles before finally coming to a halt.

The test was conducted with the climate control set to 21ºC, but the heated and ventilated seats were turned off to minimize energy consumption. Once the car finally stopped, it was towed back to the same charger used at the start of the journey. It immediately began charging at over 130 kW.
