Acura ZDX and ZDX Type S now official with up to 500 hp, 325 miles range
Right on time, today Acura unveiled its first EV, the ZDX, which it's initially offering in two versions: A-Spec and Type S. The former is the more affordable one, the latter the all-out performance model.
The ZDX and ZDX Type-S pre-sales will start later this year and the first deliveries to customers should be made in early 2024. The entry-level ZDX A-Spec is expected to start "in the $60,000 range", according to Acura, while the Type S will start "in the $70,000 range".
All versions have the same 102 kWh battery, 197.7 inches length, 77 inches width, 64.4 inches height, 121.8 inches wheelbase, and 3,500 lb maximum towing capacity.
The ZDX A-Spec will be offered with a single motor (rear wheel drive) estimated to develop 340 hp, as well as with a dual motor (all wheel drive). The former is expected to reach 325 miles of range, while the latter should do 315 miles.
The ZDX Type S is estimated to develop 500 hp and deliver a range of 288 miles on one charge from its two motors. Speaking of charging, DC fast charging is supported up to 190 kW. 10 minutes at that rate will net an estimated gain of 81 miles in range.
The ZDX was designed by a team in LA, and it's inspired by the Precision EV Concept shown last year. It's low and wide "with a sleek silhouette, long wheelbase and high contrast surfacing", featuring "the brand's iconic Chicane daylight running lights, Jewel Eye LED headlights, and seamless Diamond Pentagon with 3D embossed diamond pattern and illuminated surround", the company says.
The ZDX Type S debuts an all-new color called Double Apex Blue Pearl. The Type S will also be available in Tiger Eye Pearl. Inside you get "Acura's first integration of Google built-in" with apps like Google Assistant and Google Maps pre-installed, and access to the Play Store for more.
You have "a combined 22-inches of high-definition digital screen real estate" from a standard 11-inch "Precision Cockpit Driver Information Cluster" and an 11.3-inch "Center Information Screen". Apple CarPlay and Android auto are both supported, while Google Maps can be displayed on either screen.
The ZDX is the first Acura to feature the "immersive, luxury audio experience of Bang & Olufsen" with 18 speakers, 14 channels of amplification, and a subwoofer. The ZDX has the AcuraWatch suite of safety and driver assistive technologies, while the Type S gets AcuraWatch 360+, which "enables true hands-free driving on up to 400,000 miles of compatible roads". The 360+ system also has Acura's first Automatic Parking Assist.
