Max McDee, 02 January 2024

Guangzhou-based XPeng has officially unveiled its latest offering - the X9 MPV. It caters to families, promising spacious interior, advanced safety features, and intelligent driving capabilities.

XPeng has priced the X9, starting at RMB 359,800 ($50,400), a significant drop from the pre-sale price of RMB 388,000 ($54,500). This maneuver, often seen in the playbook of Chinese EV manufacturers, is intended to create a sense of exceeding expectations. Deliveries are slated to commence later this month, and the X9 has already garnered over 5,000 firm orders before the launch event concluded.

The X9 comes in two Pro versions, both single-motor models, with CLTC ranges of 379 miles and 436 miles, respectively. On the other hand, the Max versions include a single-motor variant with a CLTC range of 436 miles and a dual-motor four-wheel-drive version boasting a CLTC range of 398 miles. The Max version comes equipped with two LiDARs, enabling the use of the XNGP full-scenario assisted driving feature, while the Pro version is limited to Highway NGP capability and assisted parking.

Underpinning the X9 is XPeng's SEPA 2.0 architecture, featuring an 800V high-voltage platform and flexible scalability.

Measuring 208.4 inches in length, 78.3 inches in width, and 70.3 inches in height, the X9 presents itself as a sizable MPV with a wheelbase of 124.4 inches. Despite its dimensions, Xpeng says the X9 is very agile, thanks to rear-wheel steering, enabling a turning diameter of just 425.2 inches, the smallest in its class.

The X9 is the first XPeng vehicle with the capacity to use the company's assisted driving features, including XNGP, which recently expanded its reach to 243 cities in China.
