Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX and 7-seat versions go on sale in the UK

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has exciting news for those eager to embrace the electric revolution - the order books are open for three new versions of the ID. Buzz: a practical 7-seater, a high-performance GTX, and the GTX 7-seater model, blending speed with family-friendly space.

The ID. Buzz 7-seater, based on the longer wheelbase model, caters to larger families and adventure seekers with its spacious interior and generous luggage capacity. Powered by an 86 kWh battery, it promises an all-electric range of up to 291 miles (WLTP). Worried about charging times? You shouldn't. The 7-seater supports rapid DC charging, allowing for a 10-80% charge in about 26 minutes. Priced from $78,548, this versatile and eco-conscious people carrier is scheduled for customer deliveries in early Autumn 2024.

For those looking for a bit more exciting driving experience, the ID. Buzz GTX promises to deliver. With its dual electric motors and 4MOTION four-wheel drive, the GTX boasts an impressive 340PS, propelling it from 0-62mph in 6.1 seconds. That's not bad at all for a people carrier. Despite its power, the GTX maintains a respectable range of up to 262 miles (WLTP), thanks to its 79 kWh battery. Available in standard and 7-seat configurations, the GTX starts from $88,956 and $89,629, respectively, with customer deliveries expected to begin in Winter 2024.

Volkswagen's partnership with OVO Energy in the UK sweetens the deal even further. The 'Charge Anytime' add-on allows customers to charge their ID. Buzz at home for just $0.09/kWh at any time, making electric driving even more economical.

Unfortunately, its pricing won't make it as popular on the roads as the original Bulli was. The cheapest seven-seat version is nearly $19,800 more expensive than the standard Tesla Model Y, which has a similar range but is as quick as the ID. Buzz GTX. The GTX version is $13,000 more expensive than Model Y Performance, which not only has better range but can run circles around the GTX while the VW is making its best impression of accelerating. That's one of many reasons why VW struggles for survival. The ID. Buzz is a beautiful EV but it's just not priced for the average buyer.
