Chinese makers are scouting failing German car plants

Chinese investors are expressing interest in buying German car factories as the local makers scramble to improve profitability amidst the shift towards green technologies. Volkswagen, a leading German automaker, is exploring options for its Dresden and Osnabrueck factories, and may be open to selling them to Chinese buyers.

Chinese companies have been investing heavily in Europe's biggest economy in recent years, but have yet to establish a significant presence in the car manufacturing sector. Buying German factories could be China's most politically sensitive investment yet, as it would allow it to build influence in Germany's prized auto industry and avoid paying EU tariffs on electric cars imported from China.

The German government will have to play some role in any such investment, since there's a big push in Europe to reduce dependence on China. Some German officials are concerned about China's growing influence. Others believe that cooperation with China is essential for the future of the European car industry.

Volkswagen executives have been reluctant to close their German plants, but they have been under pressure to cut costs. The sale of the Dresden and Osnabrueck factories could help VW achieve its cost-cutting goals and free up resources for investment in new technologies.

Chinese investors are interested in acquiring German car factories because they believe that winning over Germany's demanding consumers is a key marker of success. They are also attracted by the opportunity to produce cars in Europe for sale in the world's second-largest EV market.

The sale of German car factories to Chinese investors could have a significant impact on the European car industry. It could lead to a decline in German jobs and production, and it could give China a competitive advantage in the global EV market.

buying assets on the cheap. germanys current situation is self inflicted. a syrian refugee has very little in common with a wolfsburg autoworker whos granddad chanted deutschland uber alles.

I wonder when a chinese company will buy all VW plants. But it would be the price to pay after the diesel-gate and turning back to the essence of the brand,, VolksWagen which means people's car in german. My guess; less than 5 years.
