The Tesla Cybertruck caused a riot with its existence and every piece of news surrounding it has been a point of discussion globally. Rarely has there ever been a vehicle to generate so much hype, and the Cybertruck successfully managed to divide people like nothing else on wheels ever could.

Today’s test focuses on the Cybertruck’s efficiency and how it stacks up against similar vehicles. It is a vehicle not offered in Europe, yet we managed to test one in Bulgaria and share our experiences. We haven’t yet tested other EV pickup trucks but the Cybertruck will likely be the first of many to come.

The version we are testing is the Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast, which is the most capable iteration of the model. It comes with 845 hp and the mind-boggling 10,296 lb-ft. Of course, the torque figure is over-exaggerated and calculated in a tricky way to seem more impressive than it is. However, we are focusing on efficiency and these performance figures are of no interest to us now.

In our upcoming dedicated review of the Cybertruck we will delve into the details around the pickup, but let’s focus on how long the Cyberbeast can go on a charge. We drove our test routes, doing the same track both ways at constant speeds at the same place as with every other car we test. The ambient temperature while testing the Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast was 70°F. This is the perfect temperature for an EV so the results we got are the best the vehicle is capable of achieving.

At our lowest testing speed of 37 mph, the Cybertruck is the least efficient vehicle we’ve ever tested. It is also the least aerodynamic, heaviest and largest by a significant margin. However, the big battery capacity of 123 kWh makes up for the high consumption and enables an impressive range on a single charge.

Impressively enough, there wasn't a huge spike in consumption when we moved on to the next testing speed of 56 mph. The Cybertruck starts bridging the gap in terms of efficiency with the big powerful SUVs. Paired with that battery the end result is applaudable.

At the highest testing speed of 81 mph, the Cybertruck blows our competition away. Consumption evens out with most rivals but because of the significantly larger battery size, the range on a single charge is much longer. We are eager to see how it stacks up against its true rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV or Rivian R1T.

On its own the Cybertruck impresses with the combination of battery size and efficiency, however most of its truck rivals come with even bigger battery packs and we’re eager to see what the results will be.

We notice that the Cybertruck initially struggled, needing a lot of energy to start moving. However, once that massive body starts moving, it doesn’t consume as much and can travel efficiently on longer routes. If you want to cover great distances on a single charge there aren’t many vehicles that can do it as well as the Cybertruck.

However, you’ll have to keep in mind that every stop for a recharge takes a lot of time and DC charging will always take over 30 minutes for 10-80% even in the best possible conditions. This requires a lot of patience and good planning. Moreover, the price for charging such a massive battery will always be higher than the competition.

The Cybertruck is not the most sensible purchase but that is obvious from the very first moment you look at it. It is a demanding vehicle that is expensive to buy, own and maintain (especially outside the US).
