Toyota expands European lineup with the new electric C-HR+

Toyota plans to release its newest electric car, the Toyota C-HR+, in Europe starting this month. The coupe-style SUV is part of the brand's growing family of EVs. The car is built on the eTNGA platform, which Toyota made specifically for its electric models.

Drivers in Europe can choose from three different versions of the C-HR+. These versions are called Mid, Mid+, and High. The car comes with two different battery sizes: 57.7 kWh of energy and the larger one with 77 kWh capacity.

The version with the longest range uses the 77 kWh battery and front-wheel drive. It can travel up to 377 miles on a single charge - the longest distance any of Toyota's electric cars can go. If you want more power, the all-wheel-drive version is quite fast - it can go from 0 to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds.

Charging an electric car can sometimes feel slow, but Toyota tries to fix that. All versions of the C-HR+ come with 150 kW fast charging. This means you can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes. For those who charge at home or work, the High grade model has a 22 kW internal charger. It can finish charging the smaller battery in a little over two hours.

Toyota also added a heat pump to the car - it helps keep the cabin warm in winter without using too much battery power. The "ECO" mode only heats the driver's seat if no one else is in the car. This saves even more energy so you can drive further. The car gets new "eAxles" that combine the motor and other parts into one small, light package - all in the name of efficiency.

The new C-HR+ looks different from the older hybrid models. It has a "hammerhead" front design with thin LED lights. The car is 178.3 inches long, which is 6.7 inches longer than the standard C-HR. The wheels are also pushed further apart to create more room inside. This gives passengers 35.4 inches of space between the front and back seats, making the cabin feel much larger.

Inside, the car has a 14-inch screen for maps and music. There is also a 7-inch screen behind the steering wheel for the driver. Toyota used recycled plastic bottles to make the seat covers, which is a nice touch for the environment. The trunk is also bigger than before, holding up to 14.7 ft³ of luggage - enough room for two large suitcases and a few smaller bags.

Even though it is an SUV, the new Toyota C-HR+ is designed to be fun to drive. The steering changes based on how fast you are going. It feels light when you are parking and firm when you are on the highway. Drivers can also use paddles behind the steering wheel to control how much the car slows down when they lift their foot off the pedal, helping put energy back into the battery.

Safety is a big part of this new model. It comes with a system called Toyota T-Mate. This includes cameras and sensors that watch for danger. The car can even steer or brake by itself to avoid a crash. One interesting feature is the ambient lighting. If you try to open the door when a car or bike is coming from behind, the lights turn red to warn you.

For people who like to go camping or move heavy items, the all-wheel-drive version can tow up to 3,307 lb, making it a useful tool for weekend trips. Toyota also offers a 10-year warranty on the battery. This should help people feel better about switching to EVs if they are worried about the battery wearing out over time.

Toyota has not announced exact prices for every country yet, but the car will be a key part of its plan to reach carbon neutrality. The Toyota C-HR+ will sit in showrooms next to other electric models like the bZ4X. It offers a mix of style, speed, and enough range to get most people through a full week of driving without needing a recharge.
