Volvo ES90 production starts for European markets

Vlad, 04 September 2025

Volvo unveiled the ES90 back in March, and now the company is announcing that production is officially underway for European markets at Volvo's plant in Chengdu, China.

Deliveries are set to start "later this year", and the car will soon become available in some of Volvo's key markets in Asia Pacific (which aren't named, however).

The ES90 "carves out a new space for itself", combining "the refined elegance of a sedan with the adaptability of a fastback, while offering the spacious interior and higher ground clearance typically associated with SUVs", Volvo says in its official press release.

So it's pretty much promised to be the best of all worlds, which is an impressive promise - now let's see if it can actually deliver on it.

The ES90 is the first Volvo to use an 800V architecture, enabling "longer range and faster charging than any electric Volvo before". It will also get over-the-air software updates.
