Australian researchers from Monash University herald the dawn of the lithium-sulfur battery era, boasting five times the energy at half the cost of traditional lithium-ion batteries.

There are either very costly components or this idea is not good for a long term usability because the results are just not enough.
Either way is not that good as it should be.

I hope we can get next generation of battery soon but i fear that we have to wait till 2030-2040 before those batteries will be in devices what we can actually buy and use.

Well if Nikolai Tesla wasnt murdered and his inventions stolen we could have for a very long time free electricity from atmosphere for anyone.

Same goes for Stanley Meyer in beggining of 70s with his invention of a motor working on ordinary water capable of proppeling any kind of vehicle by 10 000km range on a single liter of common water found anywhere.

But once again uber rich people enslaving poor people for keeping their wealthy life style, great and most richest companies, petrol and crude oil companies and many else who had ties to murdering those two would love to controll us people by the power of money and made us their own puppets who must obey their commands.

Isn't sulfur an easy combustible mineral? If so, wouldn't the two side by side make the battery much dangerous?

So many new battery technologies, they exist for over a decade but yet, lithium is still used in 99.9% of every battery required equipment.
Investors are way to afraid of the bad consequences and bad marketing if something unexpected it going to happen.

Same as petroleum, the money just keeps flowing even to its horrible for the environment, same goes with lithium mining.

They're touting this new battery as the Holy Grail, but I bet it comes with a hefty price tag. And who knows how long it'll take before it's actually available for mass production? I'm not holding my breath.

One the one hand it is nice to see any improvement over current battery tech but, in my opinion, as long as we are speaking about lithium as a major component it isn't progress. When you see throughout the world what the impact is on the environment to mine and prep lithium as material using millions liters of groundwater and to just let it evaporate in the sun, not even speaking of the tons of carbon emissions that are pompt in the atmosphere for the entire process then there isn't anything ecologic about batteries (and as a matter of fact also EV's). Don't get me wrong, the future is electric but not with the current technology. If we want to have electric driven mobility (and other stuff) then it will have to be in a way that we don't impact further the environment. For the moment the eco craze is in fact even more damaging for our earth than the current fossil fuel driven industry. It's more a "trendy" thing than a real mindset. Let's not forget that the means to produce electricity are even more important if we want to save this floating sphere in space. Burning fossil fuels to produce it makes no sense meaning that switching massively to EV would solve nothing at all.

Maybe talk about the weight of the lithium sulfur battery. Not practical if it can hold 5 times more, but also weight a lot more.

Whatever.
I am not buying a phone until 2025 as i don't need anything now.
A desktop upgrade will be done by me too in that same year if i feel the need.
We don't have EV but got a car, a motorbike and 2 cycle.
We might buy EV as we are doing some shopping research for an EV but we don't have that urgent need now.
Solar panel battery is there but i don't think we will need to change it soon.
