Xiaomi promises 100,000 SU7 deliveries this year alone

Demand for Xiaomi’s first EV is not slowing down and the company revamped its plans - it wants to deliver 100,000 SU7s before the end of 2024.

There was no mention of replacement battery costs so I guess it's pretty high up there ( given the new mcacan ev is around 100,000 USD? )

Basically, from my pov, unless they make the battery replacements cheap for the average middle class car buyer at least , there's no way EVs are going to ever catch up, regardless of how fast and dynamic the manufacturers make them to be.

And tbh I think we can eke out even more from the good old ICEs, they aren't dead yet :)

I'm.not an apple fan. I like somethings they did in the mobile industry but u absolutely loathe the other stuff like removing the headphone jack, creating a trend of removing chargers and etc from the box and also getting android manufacturers to follow their 'no micro SD support' nonsense. These things were harmful to the phone industry and I despise them for leading those harmful trends.

I'm glad that Apple failed in the EV / vehicle industry because otherwise they would have found some way to become even more greedy and ruin the vehicle industry ex: subscription based airbag systems etc lol.

So, you calling me an Apple fan is just hilarious ;)

I'm not a fan of EVs. To me they are just another move towards planned obsolescence, this time for vehicles , to stop people from buying one vehicle and maintaining it for 20 to 30 years which reduces the cash flow to the interested parties ( 'green' politicians who have invested in EV related industries). It also a means to exercise more control over the population ( easy tracking + no grid = no moving).

Tech companies line Apple and Xiaomi thought they could just slap some electronic bits together and make an EV and profit off it lol!

I'm glad that Apple failed in this regard otherwise they would have ruined the vehicle industry with their greed too, just like they did the phone industry by removing the headphone jack, chargers and other peripherals from the box and also their refusal to give into external storage options.

To me EVs have a select use case, that is small light weight EVs with small capacity (not so heavy) , quick to charge batteries for transport exclusively within a small city block or something similar.

For anything else, parallel - series hybrids ( aka normal Toyota like hybrids) are.the way to go. Gets the best of both worlds (ICE and EV) and delivers fuel economical regardless of the way you drive .

Honda way of using the ICE as an electric generator running at a constant RPM; I want to wait a few years to see how it fares.

In this economy, No way I'm going to be an early adapter, aka an ... moreBattery life expectancy for EVs and hybrids is questionable - there are few really bad examples of insane pricing and zero customer support regarding battery issues (for example Hyundai) and there are extremely optimistic examples (like Prius that seem to just refuse to die after 20+ years with OG battery and motors).

A lot of batteries are different, not everything is an iPhone with abysmal battery management and probably the worst battery degradation I have ever seen in electronics.

However I've seen plenty of Chinese EVs abandoned in massive Ezv graveyards with no chance of repairing them. Also seen some where the EVs are thrown straight up in the air due to battery related explosions.
So I hope you understand where my fear is coming from.
But yeah, it's too early to tell. I'll be waiting eagerly for the reviews of this SU7...

But props to those who are daring and brave enough to be so.

I only hope that they or any other EV maker for that matter , will make the battery replacement costs bearable.

I mean, an EV is a vehicle where a battery replacement is unavoidable in about 10 years time (with current battery tech and environmental conditions) even despite the best possible maintenance done by the owner unlike in an ICE car.

In an ICE car, if you stick to the regular maintenance, they are unlikely to need a full engine replacement in 10 years time.

So in my experience the #1 thing that holds back mew EV buyers is the battery replacement cost. No one in their right mind would like paying almost 80% or more of the depreciated value of an EV for just a single component :(

If you have ton of money and ton of commitment to the project, you can archive pretty impressive things - question remains, did Xiaomi made a worthy, efficiency EV, or it will be something that stinks like a lot of I. gen products ... where an early adopter is the worst thing you can be.

In China are 50 car producers, besides byd and nio. This project started years ago so a lot of things have been reviewed and tested.

Seriously, I wish that EV manufacturing is better regulated than it is now. These tech companies manufacturing appliances such as phones and tablets seem to think they can do the same with a vehicle which is supposed to be a machine designed to be used in the real world under a plethora of adverse conditions. Even reputed manufacturers with stringent testing are having a hard time with their EV quality control and durability (Tesla, BYD).

A phone maker turned EV maker....?
