They are capable of pretty much destroying themselves without any additional external aspects.

I'm eagerly waiting for China to build factories in EU and destroy German-French car monopoly. The prices in EU are ridiculous. I live in China and average Chinese drives MUCH newer and better car than most Europeans. It's not an effect of "slave labor" but high COMPETITION in Chinese market, that pushes innovation. Example: after tesla started gigapress casting, Chinese companies copied and improved on that within ONE year, European manufacturers are still waiting.
