Hongqi adopts CATL’s battery swap technology

Hongqi's partnership with CATL to adopt the Choco-SEB battery swapping technology is a big step towards the widespread adoption of this convenient alternative to traditional EV charging.

And sorry these are not only bike manufacturers in the world. :) Anyway we will see pretty soon how battery swapping will do, im sceptical but..

p-run, 17 Dec 2024Its bad idea. Not even Onvo (sub brand of Nio) is compatible with current Nios swapping batter... morePoint being, even chargers were not universal to begin with. To some extent still are not. Very recently all have agreed to NACS. Keep in mind 500kw fast chargers are very expensive to build and maintain. 5C is still x4 times slower than battery swap.

Honda, Kawasaki, suzuki and yamaha agreed upon swap standard 2021. Changan and Hongqi have agreed to CATL standard. All gen 3 and newer Nio swap station are compatible with Onvo, Gen 4 being the current standard. People used to think same way about Charging standards, but EV makers agreed on NACS already. EV makers are very good at agreeing upon single standard of tech, eventually.

Not even Onvo (sub brand of Nio) is compatible with current Nios swapping batteries. There is really no hope all car manufacturers to adopt one battery format, well not even dozens.. Chargers are universal and could be everywhere. Swap stations not that much.

Normal customers (unlike fleet users) will only swap for long trips. Most swap stations have pay per swap rates available, which are not that high. Monthly or yearly subscription is not needed.

I'd love to see how that would work in lake effect snow/salt territory, with batteries mating with salt corroded contacts and old salt/slush laden batteries fouling the reloading station's equipment, with attendant labor, battery repair, and building heating/drainage.

Great news. Battery swap tech is best solution for range anxiety and charging time worries. 3 minute swap for 100% battery. Would be amazing if BYD releases battery swap variants for Seagull and Dolphin
