Volkswagen unveils its most affordable EV yet - ID.Every1

Not much different specs than Volkswagen e-Up! Why does this even needs to exist as it isn't much different than e-Up! Citroën e-C3 is better than this.

Once in a while, everyone loves to see carnage.
Eric from "IDoCars" is the Zack of "JerryRigEverything" of cars, though there are other channels out there that do engine carnage.
VW ID.4 / Audi E-Tron Motor Carnage video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rquPehUcmMg
Although "IDoCars" usually do ICE engine teardown, this is his first EV motor teardown, hence his "noobness" when tearing down the engi-, I mean motor apart.
I can already hear the VW / Audi engineer screeching "WREEEEEE!" or yelling "Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein!"
Enjoy the show.
Also if there are other EV motor tear down carnage channels you know, please share.
Thanks.

Jack, 06 Mar 2025Nice looking car, but 2027 is a little late to the party. Competitors are ready with sub 20000... moreParty of what exactly?
Yeah, there is no party in this segment. Or party of one, or two... Cheap Chinese cars, that we hearing all the time, exist only in China. Even ID.3 is cheap in China... But still nothing of that came to Europe, and remains cheap...
And remember, when VW group comes to this party (next year with ID2), it doesn't come alone. It will be SUV variant, and GTI. And you will have same sized cars from Škoda and Seat/Cupra. Same goes for ID.1/Up size cars...

- d... morei was typing about claudes response.
it doesn't really know about fwd/rwd and hasn't experienced them.
majority people buying econocars dont want to be drifting.
making an awd dual motor 'econocar' would increase price.
vw could make a racer rwd only hot hatch but they don't/won't.

- stricly front-drive
- dual-drive (front and rear), with the front motor being optional.
Can you name EVs that are dedicated strictly REAR-DRIVE-ONLY (no dual drive possible)
other than some obscure chinese and the famous Wulling Mini?

Electric vehicles comm... moreThanks Pino, but that's all wrong.
1. The weight / battery is in the middle between the axles.
2. It's more complex - heftier and pricier to drive the turning wheels,
it's simpler, smaller and cheaper by the solid rear axel.
3. This are new platform not adopting ICE.

evs in general have crappy tires.
its not just about 'slippery conditions'.

when electric motor integrat... moreGood question. I asked Claude for you. Here's the answer:
---
Electric vehicles commonly use front-wheel drive for several practical reasons, despite the fact that electric motors can indeed integrate well into rear axles.
Front-wheel drive offers better traction in slippery conditions since the weight of the battery and motor over the drive wheels improves grip. It's also generally more space-efficient and cost-effective to manufacture. Many EVs are built on platforms adapted from existing front-wheel drive internal combustion vehicles, leveraging established manufacturing processes.
That said, we're seeing increasing diversity in EV drivetrains. Many high-performance EVs use rear-wheel drive for better weight distribution and handling characteristics. All-wheel drive EVs with motors at both axles are becoming more common too, offering the benefits of both configurations.
So while electric motors do integrate well with rear axles (as seen in Tesla's rear-drive models), front-wheel drive remains popular for practical engineering, cost, and consumer preference reasons.

Looks not bad. But serious question, why do EVs go front drive,
when electric motor integrates so good into rear axle?

Nice looking car, but 2027 is a little late to the party. Competitors are ready with sub 20000 EUR cars from late 2025.
