Volkswagen finally promises buttons for the most important functions

Great. Now get rid of the screen sticking up above the dashboard in the driver's field of view. Put it lower down and allow the driver to turn the distracting thing off if they want to.

To be fair "finding the hazard lights" would be high on my list: if you want to turn those on you want to do it quickly and without hunting. But I change where the fans blow at least as much as the temperature, so don't want to menu dive for that either.
The truth is that "everything via the touchscreen" the sort of thing that a only sociopathic beancounter would come up with: it's cheaper than adding mechanical controls, but since is removes attention from the road it's putting company profits above the safety of both the occupants of the car and those around them. Really the only way you can make things worse is to remove the driver instruments and make them look at a central screen for those as well (same problem: takes attention away from the road for longer).
Now that may sound like I'm having a go at Tesla, and of course I am. But it's also why I would never buy a Volvo EX30, and find it much more disappointing and off-brand for Volvo to make such choices than Musk.

So no defogger? At least they still offer stem controls for wipers I guess. Unless there is feedback that we don't need it anymore from imaginary consumers. Unnovation at it's best!
