Tesla board awards Elon Musk $26 billion pay package, bypassing shareholders

04 August 2025
Tesla's board of directors has unilaterally approved a new {{$26}} billion compensation package for CEO Elon Musk, replacing a previously voided deal and setting the stage for another pay negotiation later this year.

This is 'misleading' because it is not a pay package per se, the compensation as it is understood, consists of "stock options" which is a natural and normal executive remuneration system based upon the performance of the share price which is in turn based upon financial performance including but not limited to profitability but also business strategy and achieving long-term goals and objectives as set by the Board of Directors. I am no fan of Musk, but the remuneration system is entrenched in the American executive suite. If the public are not happy with it; it could be changed at the annual shareholders meeting ("AGM") and Musk's shareholding is large but far from the majority of shares are within his control.

The Robotaxi is far from being really autonomous. An incident occured in Austin when a Robotaxi was stuck in a parking lot during 5 minutes circling when the client called the supervisor. He stoped the car for 1 minute then restarted with human teledriving to get its destination in the client`s opinion ( a regular customer with over 15 rides)
