Is 1,000 hp family sedan too much? Or is it too little? How much power do we need for everyday driving?

Vehicles like Opel Zafira and Benz X 260 have diesel engines and Vehicles like Opel Ampera EV can charge or Benz X190 e vehicles

Here in 2026, and it's no different. If anything, it shows more profound disadvantage for weight and range. ICE cars can have a lot of power while still being efficient at highway speeds. Can't say the same for EV since it always hurt the real world range. And yes, I can happily speak that as a former EV owner.

For real world comparison. And they used 1500 rpm as the number. As usually base this on a super slow driver. It's standard to go to 3-4 k with normal acceleration at a red and closer to 1800-2200 range for cruising on average. Maybe a long drive that's consistent could get you to less rpm but average real "real world" vs this is not even comparable.

A curious thing that many people are no t aware is that the first car that broke the 100 kph limit in 1901 was a belgian EV named "la Jamais Contente" that reach 101 kph.The batteries were of the lead type so you can imagine the weght! (over 6 tons)

No! EV power is intoxicating and it's very economical. Tesla new model 3 performance is under $60l but can go head to head with $300k or more exotics.

I never had a car like my i3 that I felt so confident in when moving in traffic. The lack of gearbox together with plentiful of torque means I can precisely position my car like no ICE car ever did for me.

Most powerful EVs have "eco mode" or similar that will cut power to half or a third, to make it easier to drive in everyday traffic. Having the BIG POWER ready when you need it won't hurt you. Using only half of maximum power in everyday traffic will help preserve power.

In my i3 it seems the "normal mode" (comfort) is like sport mode in other cars so i3 owners need to turn on "Eco Pro" for a slower car. When cruising on the highway or going slow in residential areas with narrow streets, Eco Pro makes the car less "nervous" because engine gives only like half of power/torque.

I see no problem in having a powerful engine that rarely is used at full output.

Fuel economy regulations result in limited production of performance ICE vehicles resulting in price gouging on powerful ICE vehicles. Enlightened business strategists have realized that EV performance is far less constrained by CAFE penalties. The otherwise true unregulated incremental cost for EV or ICE performance is dramatically less. CAFE constrains the supply of ICE performance vehicles. These performance EV's are perfect for unfulfilled demand for affordable performance.
