Xiaomi shifts gears with new sub-brand and extended-range SUVs

Xiaomi has secured regulatory approval to produce extended-range electric vehicles under a new sub-brand called Skynomad, ready to challenge market leaders with a massive {{5.3 m}} SUV.

The West of China is for sure not the easiest for an EV. Still, 400 km EV range should bring you close to the next charging station. And yet, most buyers will never get close to these areas and instead drive around in urban and suburban areas with a 3 Ton verhicle.

Similar to the cars from LI Auto and the DMI system from BYD the petrol engine is unfortunately not completely detached from the wheels. If the battery runs low or the speed gets high the IC engine will kick in and directly drive the wheels. A much smaller little motorcycle engine would be enough to charge the battery.
