The charging cable vs. the fuel pump: unpacking XPeng's powertrain dilemma in the L03

The generator in my Shark 6 Premium (much larger & heavier) is 70kW. It's enough but you will rev hard at times if you are holding the SOC and climbing a hill. With 70kW in the L03 the motor should be able to keep the revs low regardless of speed or hills. My guess is they did it to avoid high revving and to give a seamless driving experience between EV and HEV.
I was originally keen on the EREV, but now I think I'm ready for a jump to a 520km WLTP BEV.

Remember the erev will have half the per mile charge compared to bev soon!

I won't be surprised if more people opt for the EREV version. Heck, I keep seeing more HEV variations on the road instead of BEV, and I can totally understand why. No matter how much charging power you give to an EV station, it's never as fast as filling up petrol and diesel.

At least compared to the DMI from BYD the IC engine in XPeng EREV does not under no circumstances power the wheels directly. And yet, i always wonder why it needs to be such a large IC engine. Wouldn't a 2-cylinder motorcycle engine for turning a generator be enough? I get it, the engineers certainly have thought about it. Still, just wondering.....

What kind of EV site are you - don't even have the L03 in your DB ... 🤦
